History

AFSC/Magellan Federal delivers services that successfully combine the highest possible quality and effort, with an unparalleled understanding of and compassion for the needs of Warriors, Veterans, Families and Federal Government.

AFSC/Magellan Federal’s legacy goes back to 1879 with the formation of a nonprofit organization established to care for surviving spouses from The Battle of Little Big Horn. Before there was a Veterans Administration, we were working to make sure Veterans and their Families were cared for.

With the passage of the Social Security Act of 1957, we began true case management for individuals/families who were separated from the military, retired, or passed away.

In 2000, we were spun off as a for-profit federal contractor owned by disabled veterans, believing we could best execute our mission of service by working within government, managing the most vital contracts that serve the military community and bringing our special knowledge, compassion and commitment.

In 2016, AFSC was purchased by Magellan Health, one of the nation’s largest healthcare companies, bringing a wealth of new resources and deep clinical expertise to many vital areas including PTSD, TBI, suicide prevention, sexual assault and substance abuse.

Today, AFSC/Magellan Federal operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Magellan with over 3000 employees dedicated to improving the lives of Service Members, Veterans, Families, Civilian Federal Workers and federal program recipients.
